The Perfect Red Holiday Manicure

So I probably should have put this post up a bit earlier, seeing as though the festive season is nearly over, but I think a red manicure still looks beautiful in the winter seasons, and I also feel a little more sophisticated wearing it.

Now on my perfect holiday duo. The Sally Hansen base coat and top coat has been a favourite of mine for years now. I initially bought it to make my nails a bit stronger as they kept flaking and breaking and I used this for a while just on its own as kind of like a treatment. Ever since I have started using it I have noticed a difference in the way my nails feel, they're not so ridged any more and definitely don't break as often.

Although I have only just got this Reiss nail varnish I have fallen head over heels for it and hope that it lasts until the end of 2016 so I can wear it again .

Do you have any recommendations for holiday nail colours?

See you tomorrow.

Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liners: My Top Picks

Another week another lip liner post, but I have well and truly fallen back in love with lip liners and one of these was my very first lip liner.

The two in question are from the Rimmel Exaggerate Range, they roll up and down which is good as it means that they do not require a pencil sharpener.

I don't know what it is about these liners but they are just my favourite they have good staying power and the softness of it makes it really easy to overdraw your lips with and for the price - £3.99, well..... you just cannot beat it.

The nude one East End Snob is my all time favourite and I think this is either my third or fourth one now I just love it. I have also been getting a lot of use out of the red one Red Diva now that the festive season is upon us.

If there is one negative about these lip liners is that I think I find them a bit too soft and if I am a little heavy handed I end up snapping the bullet, which is probably why I have been through so many of the East End Snob, but it probably serves me right for trying to be so heavy handed with it.

What colours would you suggest from this line?

See you tomorrow.

Reiss Nail Paint Collection AW15

So instead of doing a whole post of what I got for Christmas I thought I would give you an in depth look at some of gifts. This way you can take a look at things in much greater detail and hopefully this will be a bit more informative.

The first gift that I am going to show you is the Reiss Nail Paint Collection AW15. I have to be honest I had never even seen that Reiss has started doing make up. But obvs they do, I don't know whether they will be stocking into beyond the Christmas period, so maybe you need to get your hands on it quick.

First off you have to admit that the packaging is to die for, I am a sucker for packaging and Reiss have definitely drawn me in with this white and gold number. There are four nail varnishes in the set: Nude Sahara, Mystic Grace (Grey), Bacall Red (Burgundy) and Forever Red. I have to say too that the bottles look beautiful too and will look lovely stood on my dressing table, well.... that's if I ever get rid of the box and I think I am right in saying that they are all full sized.

Now on to the colours as you can see from the swatches the nude is quite nude and I struggled to take a good photo of it, and I am yet to apply it on to the nails so I hope that it comes up a bit better. The red is definitely my favourite out of the set and surprisingly is the first true red that I have in my collection. I also can't wait to try out the grey colour I think it will look lovely on the nails. I also have to say that I think all of these colours are very sophisticated and I think I will be able to wear them all and for them to match my outfits.

Did you get any nail varnish for Christmas let me know.

See you tomorrow.

Back on the Lip Liner Train

Towards the beginning of the year I started to fall in love with lip liners. I love what a difference they can make to your lips and make them appear much more juicy than they actually are. But for some reason towards the latter part of this year I just stopped using them. I don't know whether this was because I had become lazy or whether I just didn't want my lips to look like that any more.

In comes the Maybelline Colour Sensational Lip Liner in Midnight Plum, this is the perfect lip liner for the winter season, it matches nearly all of my dark lipsticks and also lasts a very long time, even when may be my lipstick hasn't lasted as long. It also has a great consistency not so soft that it just breaks but not so hard that it hurts to put on. Now that I have this one I tempted to go and purchase the rest of them at £3.99 you really can't go wrong.

Have you got any lip liner suggestions for me?

See you tomorrow.

The Winter Mint Polish

Now I don't know if it is just me but I love wearing any colour nail polish all year round. Seeing as I have a mostly black wardrobe it means whatever colour my nails are will match my outfit.

Saying that I have been on the look out for a nice winter mint nail varnish, something that is a bit more muted and not so spring like in colour. So when I was browsing the Essie counter in Boots (as I feel like I do on an almost daily basis). I cam across this polish Turquoise and Caicos, which fitted the bill almost exactly and has definitely filled my needs of having another mint nail varnish in my collection. I am sure I can get some wear out of it in spring and summer too but for now it can be my winter mint polish.

What colours do you like to wear over the festive season?

See you tomorrow,

Jess

How to be more productive...

So a bit of a different post from me today. I will start off by saying first that in no way, shape or form am I the most productive person out there. Of course, there are days when all I want to do is look at obscure corners of the internet (cue cute cat videos and baking videos) and have no interest in work but I find the days where I follow the steps down below I can be quite productive and tick off quite a few things on my to do list.

Make time for yourself
Although this may seem like a strange one, making time for yourself is extremely important, whether this is one minute of the days or a couple of hours, you should never forget to look after yourself. If you just carry on doing your to do list in all of your free time I find that you become a bit disenchanted with what you are doing, and hence, procrastinate. Set aside time each week to do something just for you, whether this is reading, baking, exercising or painting your nails. Do something to really treat yourself.

Make lists
I am a big believer in making lists just before you go to bed. Having everything written down on a piece of paper empties your mind of all the things swirling around in your brain. I find that when you write them down it also helps you to sleep better as you are not trying to remember everything to do. Then when you wake up in the morning, you can complete all of the tasks on your list. I actually find it quite satisfying to tick them all off. I also tend to write lots of little things down on my to do list such as brush my teeth as it makes me more motivated to see things being ticked off, although I know I would already do them and don't need a list to remind myself. Ticking small things off gets the ball rolling for the bigger things on your list.

Fringe Hours
I was listening to a podcast the other day (TLS #74 How to make the most of your fringe hours). This was a very insightful podcast basically about how to make use of your fringe hours. Fringe hours are basically hours being used up by mundane tasks, the example they give in the podcast in drying your hair. If you did something in this time that you need to do e.g. blog or something you enjoy e.g. read magazines you are putting your hours to a much better use, as you don't need to be fully in the moment to dry your hair. Also over a course of year this is a lot of hours building up to something you enjoy or need to do which would otherwise have gone to waste. I have found that my bus journeys to and from work are my fringe hours, I have now started blogging on the bus and even looking and commenting on other peoples. Both of which I would enjoy.

I would highly recommend listening to this podcast if you have the time.

What do you do to make yourself more productive?

See you tomorrow,

Jess

Gift Guide for Men

So I know this is very late on before Christmas but there are still a few days to get a few last minute items and I thought I would put a few on here for you to help you out. I find men are the hardest to buy for my opinion - they don't ever want anything.

So here are a few suggestions that I though you might find helpful.

Novelty Table Tennis Set £12, Beer and Food Book £16.99, Mens Shoe Shine Kit £12, Atkinson 24 Old Bond Street Shower Gel £29, Mandara Spa Everyday Essentials Kit £4, Shaving Set £95, 101 Sandwiches £12.99, Breaking Bad Box Set £55.40, Gucci Gulity for Men £49.

I hope this helps, even if you don't buy the exact things that I have suggested I find that looking at gift guides always helps sparks more ideas.

See you tomorrow.

On My Wish List Right Now

So at this time of year there is a lot of spending to be done on other people for Christmas presents, so buying for myself has to take a back seat so here is my wishlist. This is mostly for me so I can remember what I want when I can buy for myself but I thought you might be interested too.

So thats what is on my wishlist, think I might need to get round to buying those Christmas socks soon. What is on your wishlist?

See you on Monday.

My Favourite Hand Cream

As you might be able to tell from the very battered packaging, this is my favourite hand cream ever and I have been quickly using it up. I am not usually much of a hand cream person but this winter my hands have been getting extremely dry and had even started to crack. So I thought now is the time to get a hand cream, so I went to the Body Shop and picked this one up.

The smell alone made me pick this up I know this is probably not the best way to decide but I was in desperate need and almond is one of my favourite scents. This does take a little time to sink in but once it does it makes my hands nice and moisturised and I hardly ever have to moisture after.

Have you got a favourite hand cream? Let me know as I am sure this one will be finished soon.

See you tomorrow.

Little Mix Jade Eye Make Up

So I thought as I loved Little Mix so much I would try and do a some Little Mix eye tutorials and I have started off with Jade from one of her recent music videos and with the help of some YouTube videos. I know it is a pretty simple look but if you want me to continue this mini series let me know.

Products Used:

Brushes Used:

Step 1:
Apply the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil across the whole of the lid and blend it at the edges with the Mac 217.

Step 2:
Lightly apply the Barry M highlighter all over the lid blend with the 217 in the crease to blend it more seamlessly with the NYX pencil.

Step 3:
Apply a thin line of the L'oreal Superliner and a small flick.

Step 4:
Apply lashings of your favourite mascara and maybe some false lashes if you want to add some extra glamour.

Sorry for the lack of photos I realised after I probably should have done more but I hope you get the right sort of idea.

SO what do you think shall I do the rest of Little Mix too?? Let me know.

NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil

I may be a bit late on the bandwagon but ever since I tried the NYX above and beyond full coverage concealer I have wanted to try some more NYX products so I picked up the NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil to try. I have always been meaning to try them but as I have never seen NYX products in real life I have always been a bit more cautious to try them as I usually like to have a swatch of the colours before I but them. But I thought that as they were so cheap I should give them a go. I read quite a few blogs about all the different shades and picked my favourite colours from their pictures.

There are 31 shades to choose from and they retail for £5 each.

NYX says: A radiant eyeliner that also doubles as an eyeshadow. Made with a blend of mineral oil and powder, our creamy jumbo eye pencils glide on effortlessly with no pulling, tugging or fading and come in a rainbow of vivid hues.

While I was researching, trying to decide what colour to but I saw a lot of mixed reviews some said that they wore away too easily, some said that that there was little pigmentation from them. I feel that these make a great base on the lid or are a good wash of colour if you don't want anything too dramatic.

They do crease and I don't have the oiliest of eye lids in fact I have the complete opposite but they do crease, which is why I find them good as a base as then it doesn't matter if it creases. I suppose if you did want to wear it on its own you could wear a primer under it, which would also help with the pigmentation although I have not tried this yet.

Now lets get on to the actual products...

Strawberry Milk

I have been dying to get hold of this shade and I am so glad that I have it in my life now. As a big fan of the colour pink it may be a surprise for you to know that I own only one other pink shadow apart from the one above so I thought that this would make a nice little addition to my collection.

Pure Gold:

This is another favourite of mine, you can never have too many gold tones in my opinion and this one is no exception, as the pigmentation isn't too strong you can have a lovely wash of colour over the lid without it being too obvious.

Cashmere:

I love love love this shade and have been using it nearly everyday for work (when I can be bothered to wear eyeshadow), it gives a lovely glossy look to the lids and makes the skin look a lot more radiant. I love this so much that I will be featuring it in a Little Mix look tomorrow if you want to come back for that. This is definitely one to get.

I am so happy with all the shades I picked and would like to thank all the bloggers that have written about NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow pencils but I looked at so many I can't remember now.

I will definitely be getting some more in the future. Do you own any NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow pencils let me know which ones you'd recommend in the comments.

See you tomorrow.

Most Used Item This Week...

So when I finished my last can of the Charles Worthington Texturizing Spray I thought it was time for a change, there was nothing wrong with it I just thought I needed something new to try. So I went to Superdrug and I bought the Fudge Urban Texture Spray as it was on offer and I've heard a bit about it before so I thought I'd try it out.

So I have been testing out for the last week and here are my opinions. As a person who strives to get more volume in my hair texturizing spray is a must. The positives of this one is that it is not sticky at all, like when you spray it in your hair doesn't feel crunchy it literally doesn't feel like you have anything in your hair. Another positive is that it lasts in your hair all day and it has a lovely smell.

Now on to the not so good things. Although I like the smell I can see why people would not like this it is quite overpowering and I can still smell it in my hair hours later and could be a bit overpowering if you were wearing perfume too. Another problem I have found is that I just don't get as much volume as I would like. The Charles Worthington one gives double the amount of volume compared to this one and is the amount that I desire.

This is the first product that I have tried Fudge and although this wasn't the best product it hasn't discouraged me from not trying other products due to it being so cheap.

This product is online here and in Superdrug Stores for £6.99

See you tomorrow!

The Top Acid Toners

Although I have had a blog for a while I have not posted any skincare posts yet. I am very passionate about skincare since I started reading Caroline Hirons blog (who I am sure you all know) and who has gotten me on to using acid toners. I try to use a different acid toner in the morning and the evening but I don't use them everyday as I don't want my skin to be completely stripped. I thought I write about some of my favourites:

1. First Aid Beauty Radiance Pads - these are my favourites as they are so easy to use, each pad is pre-soaked so you don't have to worry about pouring on to a cotton wool and you know there will be enough on there. These are also not stripping at all and are nice on gentle on the skin I like to use these in the mornings.

2. Clearasil Daily Clear Superfruits Refreshing Pads - these are extremely budget friendly and I don't think everyone would realise that they are acid toners. I find these quite strong and so would not usually use them in consecutive days.

3. Clinique Mild Clarifying Lotion - this contains salicyclic acid so is good for people who have acne as it won't make it any worse or aggravate it. This as it suggests in the name is mild and was one that I liked to use in the evening as it feels a bit more moisturising on the skin.

4. Clarins Gentle Exfoliating Brightening Toner - this is my absolute favourite and think always will be, I like to have it always in stock in my skincare stash. It's lovely to use just a couple of times a week just as a treat for my skin.

My advice (well from Caroline) is to have two or three acid toners, and use the lighter one for the days and a strong one for night. I have also done a bit of research into what each of the acids done so I'll add that below for you.

Lactic Acid - good for dry and dehydrated skin, resurfacing
Glycolic Acid - good for collagen stimulation, resurfacing
Malic Acid - good for collagen boosting, resurfacing
Salicylic Acid - good for acne prone skin
PHAs - good for hydrating and deep penetration of products afterwards

See you on Monday!

Essie Wicked

So now that the winter season is finally upon us it is time for the darkened nail polish colours. At the moment is Essie Wicked: a colour that I have seen on many bloggers and vloggers for a while now. Essie is not my favourite nail varnish brand due to them seeming to chip so easily on me but who can resist all those shades when they are lined up so beautifully in Boots.

This is a deep, dark red colour and is definitely in contention for one of the best autumn winter colours. I like this on my toes as well but I'm not going to show you a picture of my toes, cos toes are just gross. As per most nail varnishes, two coats does this for me and the dark colour means that it matches most of my outfits. As I said before my nails don't really last with Essie nail polish so a base and a top coat is a must. I also don't have a colour that is similar, well not that I have found yet.

See you tomorrow!

Five Beauty Tutorials That I Like By Bloggers

So seeing as my fifty YouTubers You Should be subscribed too post went down so well I thought I would do a post on my five favourite tutorials on YouTube by vloggers. Hope you like them as much as me!

Dizzybrunette3 is one of my favourite vloggers and this Jade Little Mix Tutorial is great it uses all drugstore products and even products that Jade uses herself.

Poppy Rawson is another one of my favourite YouTubers and although this one is a bit older, it is one that I have come back to this autumn to recreate.

Amelia Liana one of my ultimate girl crushes, her make up is just always on point. This less dramatic look is easy to create and looks beautiful on the skin.

I keep saying that each of this are my faves but I don't know what else to say, these are my faves. Freddy has a much more natural look than I would go for but this is still beautiful.

I know I've already put in one from poppy but I honestly find her videos so so good and very informative and easy to recreate. This purple smoky eye is beautiful for Autumn instead of a brown one.

See you tomorrow!

Gift Guide for Teens

So buying for teens can be a little tricky. It can be hard to know whether they will be happy with what you get or it will be a complete flop. It is hard to get the balance right I remember getting some terrible presents when I was a teen just because relatives still thought I was a child.

So I have divided this up into categories to make it a bit easier if you know the general thing your teen is into.

For Teens Who Love YouTube:

Chances are that if you have a young teen in your family they will be into YouTubers, the likes of Zoella and Tanya Burr have millions and millions of fans, so it is lucky that they also have some products that you can purchase that they have bought out. From the Zoella range there is a whole range of make-up bags, body products and bathing goodies. And from the Tanya Burr range there are nail varnish, eye lashes, lip glosses and lots of lovely palettes as well. A few of my faves are the Kissy Missy Lip Balm, the make up bag and the Tanya Burr nail varnish in Duvet Day. There are also a number of different books by different YouTubers from The Glam Guide from Fleur de Force or The Pointless Book from Zoella's boyfriend Alfie Deyes.

For Teens Who Love Beauty:
I started getting into beauty when I was a teen and every beauty product I was given I coveted, I always wanted one of those huge collections that you see on YouTube. The best places to get products are in Superdrug and Lush, as things are not too expensive. You can get some lovely baths bombs in Lush especially some of the Christmas ones. You can also buy some nice palettes from the likes of L'oreal or Barry M. Another favourite is Soap and Glory products, you can buy little minis in sets which will please any teen. Another fave is Essie nail varnishes you can buy a nice set, which I would get if I din't have most of the shades or you can buy them individually.

Everything Else:
Some other things I like to receive when I was younger (well still now too :p) pyjamas, dressing gowns and slippers, I'd go to Primark, Topshop and Next as they have a nice selection. Anything from Paperchase which looks cute, vouchers to your teens favourite shop and maybe even baking bits and pieces.

Just try to think about what you would have wanted when you were that age.

What are you going to buy your family? Buying for my family is my favourite, just getting to see the look on their face is priceless.

See you tomorrow.

Eylure Christmas Party Lashes

Snow Princess, Frozen Beauty, All Hail the Queen (Top to Bottom)

Now that it is officially the Christmas season, it is time to take a look at what we might want to wear make up wise to Christmas parties, Christmas Day and even New Years. It can't be just me that likes to plan what make-up I am going to wear as well as what outfit I am going to wear. This Christmas collection from Eylure is the perfect edition to take a normal make up look into something a bit more Christmassy. There are three different limited edition sets in the collection all of which contain a varying amount of sparkle.

Frozen Beauty

The three sets are All Hail The Queen which are textured lashes with iridescent stones at the lash. Frozen Beauty, which are my fave these are ribbon embellished lashes which have a bit sparkly ribbon in between a few of the lashes. And lastly, Snow Princess which is a volume filled lashes decorated with iridescent sparkles. As you can probably see from the photos (and from hard I found it to take photos of them) it is very subtle the added glitter and are easily wearable to parties without making too much of a statement.

Would you wear any of these to a party? Let me know in the comments. I can definitely say I am going to be wearing the Frozen Beauty ones on Christmas Day.

See you tomorrow.

Birchbox x Skinnydip Review

Birchbox is always the box that I go for when I want to treat myself. I only ever buy it as a one off when I feel I deserve a treat. This month it was in collaboration with Skinnydip and I thought I would show you what was inside.

As you might be able to tell the box is designed by Skinny Dip and comes in two different designs. You can also upgrade so that you pay a bit more money and have a Skinny Dip phone case as well, which I did not do. The box also came with a discount code for Skinny Dip. You can get £10 off if you spend £24 or more on their website with the code BIRCHBOX.

So now on to the content of the box. First up is the So Susan Featherlash Mascara which is actually a full size product, which I was pleased to see as in other boxes I have received I have received no full size items. I am excited to try this as I am running low on mascara and always like to try new ones. Next we have the Trilogy Make-Up Be Gone Cleansing Balm this melts away your make up, cleansers are also another thing I love to try so can't wait to try this. Then we have the Lord & Berry Silhouette Neutral Lip Liner, this is a lip liner with no colour so should be able to use with any lip colour. Perfect if you can't find an exact match of lip colour.

Next we have Delarom Creme Acquaconfort, this is basically a moisturiser for your face. I have never heard of this brand before so I am eager to try this out. Then we have the lovely beauty treat of the Thumbs Up Rosa Nail Wraps, now I have never tried nail wraps before and I have quite high hopes for these, I just hope they fit on my tiny little fingers. And last but no means least we have the Beauty Protector Beauty Cream Body Lotion, which is only available from Birchbox. I have received their products before in Birchboxes before but have never been blown away, still worth trying I think.

Hope you enjoyed having a little nose into seeing what I received, as I like to see what other people got too. Which beauty boxes would you recommend?

See you on Monday.
